On November 25th, 2016, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece Headquarters (NRDC-GR HQ) celebrated the Albanian National Day, with a flag raising ceremony in front of the main building of the HQ at Pedion Areos camp, in Thessaloniki. The event honored with their presence the Commander of NRDC-GR, the Albanian consul of Thessaloniki, the entire staff of the HQ as well as Albanian invitees living in Thessaloniki.
The Albanian National Representative, Lieutenant Colonel Adrian BEQAJ, in his speech of the day highlighted the importance of the day for the Albanian history saying: “The declaration of national independence 104 ago is the most important act in our history, laid down the foundations of our national renaissance and the creation of Albanian state”.
Furthermore, he added that, “The Albanian independence was proclaimed on 28th of November 1912 with two-head black eagle in a red background flag, bringing us closer the dark memories and the bloodshed. This flag is the symbol and the most significant expression of the identity of Albanians, whenever they live”.
In continuing he said “Albania is now a contributing member of NATO and is close to meet the second strategic objective, to become part of what it belongs geographically, Europe. The Albanian people and the entire political leadership are committed and determined to contribute to this goal”.
Concluding the Albanian National Representative expressed his deepest respect to all NRDC-GR Contributing Nations, his gratitude to Greece for the hospitality, warm and friendly environment and the support for the accomplishment of his mission.
Deputy Commander of NRDC-GR Major General (BGR A) Dimitar Krumov ILIEV congratulated the Albanian personnel and the Albanian representatives for this day, and expressed his appreciation for the significant contribution of the Albanian staff to all the last years’ HQ’s successes.
