On July 27th, 2018, a ceremony took place at the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece Headquarters (NRDC-GR HQ), to farewell the Deputy Commander Major General (BGR) Dimitar ILIEV and welcome his successor, Major General (BGR) Ivan ORTOMAROV, assigned after the decision of the Bulgarian Authorities. The entire HQ staff attended the event which was honored by the presence of the Bulgarian General Consul in Thessaloniki.
NRDC-GR Commander Lieutenant General Dimitrios BIKOS, thanked the outgoing DCOM for his service and gave his wishes for personal and family health and happiness and success in his new assignment. He also inducted the new DCOM, introduced him to the HQ staff and wished him success in his new duties.
Maj Gen ILIEV has been promoted to Lieutenant General (in effect as of Aug 1st, 2018) and his new position will be Deputy Chief of the Bulgarian National Defence General Staff. Maj Gen ILIEV in his speech thanked the Commander and the NRDC-GR personnel for their support and stated that he feels proud for serving as NRDC-GR DCOM during the preparation-evaluation period of the HQ, for its role as Joint Task Force HQ.
The new DCOM, Maj Gen Ivan ORTOMAROV, over the last two years served as Director of Operations and Training Directorate in the Ministry of Defence. He thanked Maj Gen ILIEV for his service as NRDC-GR DCOM, wished him success in his new duties and also stated honored to be posted as NRDC-GR DCOM.
The Commander and both the outgoing and new DCOM, expressed their condolences for the victims of wildfire in Attica on the 23rd of July and then the entire HQ kept a minute of silence in commemoration of the victims.
