On Jun 30th, 2017, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece Headquarters (NRDC-GR HQ) held a ceremony on the occasion of the French National Day, (14th of July), with a flag raising in front of the main building of the HQ at “Pedion Areos” camp. The event honored with their presence the French diplomat at Thessaloniki, several consultants, the entire staff of the HQ as well as French invites living in the city.
The French flag is formed with three colored vertical stripes of same size. According to the speech delivered by the French National Representative “Blue and red were taken from the colors of the militia of Paris, which was of specific influence during this very troubled period: the white was for centuries, the traditional color of the Monarchy… The flag was recognized in 1794, initially as a Navy combat Flag, but soon after, officially adopted as an emblem of the whole Nation.”
On 14th of July, French celebrates its National Day, in memory of July 1789 when violent assault contacted by the people of Paris against LA BASTILLE, a castle in Paris that was a royal jail, the fall of the which had appeared as the symbol of the end of the absolutism and by extension a celebration of the Republic.
NRDC-GR Chief of Staff representing Commander NRDC-GR Lieutenant General Dimitrios BIKOS, complimented the French personnel and representatives for this commemoration, and expressed his appreciation for the significant contribution of the French staff to all the HQ’s achievements. After this traditional ceremony a reception was held at the premises of the HQ.
