2018, May 11 - 1:50pm

From 7th to 10th May 2018, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – GREECE (NRDC-GR) hosted the 11th Allied Command Operations (ACO) International Legal Conference, which was co-organized by the legal offices of Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and NRDC-GR, under the auspices of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS), at Thessaloniki’s Officers Club.

The aim of the conference which included legal personnel from over 30 European Nations was to develop a common understanding of special aspects of International Law, while offering a unique opportunity to engage with experts and debate the legal approach to current challenges.

The main topics of discussion referred to some of the top issues of the day for the Alliance and the Nations that comprise it, such as the analysis of the threats emanating from NATO’s Southern Flank, the legal challenges from the use of cyberspace as a domain of warfare and the role of women in International Organizations working for peace and security.

The legal conference provided an excellent platform for opinion exchanges and discussion among NATO lawyers, academic community and International Organizations.
